Horn Theology · Chief Editor

Naol Befkadu Kebede

Physician, theologian and public theologian from Ethiopia.

Naol Befkadu Kebede is Chief Editor of Horn Theology, an independent Christian public-theology publication and ministry rooted in the Horn of Africa. An Ethiopian physician, theologian and public theologian, he writes on faith and public life, with particular attention to medicine, church and society. He is also a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Cambridge.

His work brings medicine and theological reflection into conversation with the public questions of the region. Healthcare, healing and the vocation of the physician sit alongside questions about religion, politics and the relationship between churches and society. These are connected concerns: how faith is lived in public, how communities care for one another, and how theological reflection can engage the circumstances of the Horn of Africa.

As Chief Editor, he holds final editorial responsibility for what Horn Theology publishes, working within its regional editorial model alongside regional and topic editors, copy editors, translators and reviewers. The publication’s commitments centre on evidence, theological seriousness, regional grounding and public usefulness rather than ethnic, partisan or denominational loyalty.

His editorial work is situated within Horn Theology’s Christian ministry and mission: cultivating contextually rooted, publicly engaged theological reflection for the churches and communities of the Horn. The publication brings faith into conversation with politics, peace, healthcare, culture and the common good. Horn Theology remains a shared undertaking shaped by people across the region and its diaspora, rather than the work of a single founder.
